I resolve....
Mar. 20th, 2011 09:03 am... not to get wrapped up in the idiocy going on the political arena anymore.
I feel awful taking this position. It's like turning my back on the USA. But it's something I must do for my own sanity and health.
I feel that the crap going on with teh GOP in Washington (and local governments like Wisconsin and Tennessee) is nauseating. Not just that, but there are smart, well educated people who perpetuate the GOP lies and half truths, despite a serious and heartfelt attempt to engage and debate.
The right, and particularly those currently setting policy in Washington, are applying nothing approaching logic to their decisions. it is pure ideology and catering to the very masses they've brainwashed into supporting them. I've heard Baehner say "We're just doing what the people want us to do" - what crap. You're doing what you told the people must be done. You've whipped the masses into a reactionary frenzy with no supporting evidence aside from what you've cherry picked to support your batshit conclusions.
This past week the GOP voted to 'defund' NPR - citing "We can save a program, or we can save our country" - and yet, the decision they made WILL NOT SAVE A SINGLE FEDERAL DOLLAR. The legislation changes how NPR can spend the money, it does not stop giving it to them. They're simply not allowed to buy programming with it.
Wha???
I've heard Scott Walker peddle his litany of lies and distortions, and seen the GOP lock-step behind him, even though every single one of his 'reasons' for his actions are pure fantasy, and easily debunked... yet the bill was passed into law.
Where is the sanity? Where is the logic?
Even when presented with pure, direct, and well researched facts debunking these positions, still, this changes move forward, and people don't listen?
Well I give up. My ability to affect change in those who will not listen is nil. I will vote as I see fit as the elections come up - thereby putting my opinion out as every other American can, but in the interest of my own health and well-being, I resolve not to get into face to face (or keyboard to keyboard) debates about politics anytime in the forseeable future.
