Mom's phone - what I got

Thanks EVERYONE who chimed in on the phone discussion.

I went to Best Buy and looked at the Sprint phones, but I also checked out the 'no-contract' arrangements. I ended up getting a Samsung Mantra phone via Virgin Mobile. $25 a month, 400 anytime minutes, no contract. The phone cost $40.

Win.

I'm sort of surprised at how good a deal the 'no contract' stuff is. The VM phones run over Sprints network - why would I get a sprint phone?

My experience with Sprint is why would anyone get a Sprint anything? I should have known it was all over when MCI bought Sprint - MCI is one of the few (non tobacco) companies I consider to be thoroughly malicious.[1] But my opinion was finalized when I received a $5000 monthly bill. Turns out the rep was wrong when he said that calling the Western Sahara was $10 a call.[2] It was $10 a minute.



[1] I usually adhere to the aphorism Don't ascribe to maliciousness what can be ascribed to stupidity.

[2] I even sent him back to verify that information.
