Music news, moving on.

penkTonight was my last practice night with the band.
I've been waffling back and forth about where to go with music and bandstuff and the like. I've been chafing at a lot of decisions the ostensible 'leader' of the band has made, and because of this, my enthusiasm for the music has really waned. You can't play well if you're bored or grumpy or aggravated.
When the band started scheduling gigs all through the summer for Friday and Saturday nights, I pretty much gave it up. Summer weekends are for my family and Maine and weekend projects, not for loading up a van at 8pm on a Friday night to play to 2 dozen drunken idiots in a tiny tavern while ducking swinging pool cues.
So tonight I finished up. No hard feelings with the band, they said I could come back and play with them whenever I'd like to, but they'll replace me with someone else for gigs and practices. I doubts I'll play with them on their turf again. I could easily see inviting one or two of them to play at Mosaic, but right now, I'm done.
What's that mean for me? I'm not sure. My music-motivation has been low lately. I'm thinking it's primarily from the uninspired associations with my bandmates, but also I'm being distracted with other things. I enjoy playing, I like the sound, but I think my next music-endeavour will need something more challenging, most likely starting with classes or lessons to improve my technique and theory knowledge, but I'm not making any in depth plans.
What it does mean is my schedule just got a little more open. Wednesday nights are now free, weekends are not booked once or twice a month. Most likely this'll mean more volleyball and/or bikeriding, which is fine, at least until the fall. I don't have to do something every night of the week.
