I'm starting to toy with the idea of making skiing a bigger part of my winter. Having season tickets last year to Mt Wachusett was awfully nice, and really made me do the "lets go skiing for a few hours" thing.

When I was a kid, my family would regularly rent ski houses up in Vermont and upstate NY. Generally it was with lots of other families - big houses with several bedrooms we could populate with just 1-2 couples or a dozen.

Things are more expensive now, but that might be something I'd be interested in doing again. Are there skiers (with or without families) who might be interested in renting a house in Maine or Vermont for the coming winter, and getting local tickets to the mountain?

My budget is limited, and this would primarily be for Zach and myself, but I do like the idea of going in with several people to rent someplace. It's nice having a place to go to!

I'm not up for a house rental, but I'm probably up for a Wachusett season ticket this year.

We'd be interested and even know of some nice places in Maine and VT. We don't ski but we do other winter sports and enjoy snowing hanging out :)

Was definitely not thinking this is skiing only - half the fun is having a home base where everyone can come back to after their daily funfun!

If you have some ideas of places, that would be great - the budget is going to be the most challenging thing, so a lot will depend on how many people end up being a part of it.

I could also see setting out some guidelines for folks coming up for the weekend - either food or contributions or whatever.

Hmmmmmm!

It has taken me far too long to reply to this - sorry! if you're able to come to the birthday party on October 17th, I'll have some pictures of the fall rental at one of the places we've gone - they do winter rentals. i'll also heard good things about ourrentalparadise.com - they have specials fairly often and i went to their Sunday River house 2 years ago with a group. We each paid about $70 each for the weekend, group of 10 of us. It was really nice, though I remember it being late in the season (maybe the week after President's Day).

Interested? Totally! Ability to afford? Very skeptical.

If you do some research and figure out a per family cost, I'll talk about it with R and see if he's got enough interest/$ for it to work for us.

It's possible that I might be interested in getting in on a venture like this, especially this winter, for complex reasons not involving skiing (I only do XC, and only very beginnerishly). On the upside, odds that I would cook for you and you would eat excellently are high.

That sounds like an excellent reason to go. *grin*

I very well might be up for such a thing if finances and certain life events come to pass in the ways I hope they do... It's vague, I know. Just put me down for maybe. ^_^

I might be seriously interested in this, depending on finances and various other factors. I'm unlikely to be able to do more than a few weekends, however.

Well I figure we'll set up the normal Google Calendar and see when folks can make it when - I hope to have enough people involved so that we all can get a couple weekends in - hopefully some wil overlap.

Thanks!

I'm interested, curious about the numbers, and won't be able to afford anything until I get a job again.

hey, I'm interested! And I might be able to convince the boy (who is a much more experienced XC skier than me) to come, as well! Keep me posted, or on whatever list you have. I'm such an infrequent LJ-er, though, that I fear I'd miss something if you only posted it here... I'll try to stay awake, but... (do you facebook? It's my newer hangout.)

I'm still not sure if this is feasible for this year. But I'm still looking!
