My weekend, let me show you it.
Oct. 12th, 2009 08:57 pmI generally don't do these sorts of posts - but I'm feeling the urge to be journaly-sociable, so here we go...
This weekend
catya was away at Twilight Covening, so Zach was with me all weekend. This is one of the few times he and I get to spend time just-us together at Mosaic, and I was admittedly a little nervous about how it would go, but excited at having that focus time.
Friday
* Decided to have a movie night, and set up the common house great room into 'movie theater' mode, with a big white sheet (courtesy of
dbang) as the screen. The movie was Young Frankenstein which at least 2 folks in the audience hadn't seen before. Had between 10 and 15 people in watching, and
qwrrty got a good picture in.. Zach was very grumpy and wasn't interested in watching a new movie, and got bored during the credits (remember when credits were shown at the BEGINNING of a movie?), but wandered back in to see some classic moments.
Saturday
* In the morning, went to the karete class Zach's been attending with another Mosaic family. I met with the owner, and got information on signing Zach up for more classes. It was great watching him go through his forms - he's 'got it' in ways that's pretty cool to watch.
* Afternoon, it was off to Honkfestwith my mom. We took the train in from Alewife to make the parking tolerable, and all in all it went great. I posted lots of pictures a flickr photo set. Met friends and introduced Mom to Anna's burritos and generally had a great time. And, of course, Emperor Nortons totally rocked.
Sunday
* Had a common house meal in the morning cooked by
winged_faerie. Deeeelish. Breakfast burritos! Spent a chunk of the day doing basic geekery stuff, like learning how to pull pictures off my camera using iPhoto and putting them up on flickr. * Later went out for a beautiful walk around Gates Pond. Talk about the perfect weather day. I wrote up a post on Planet Geek! about it.
* Went out to dinner at the Hudson Chinese Food Buffet - a sort of face-down feeding trough loosely based around chinese food buffets - with a bunch of other Mosaic folks. Good company and chat and Good Dumb Food.
Monday
* Had a friend of Zach's from his school over for the day, so got them settled in this morning, then took a lazy late morning to watch the installation of our new patio continue (YAY!), while shepherding the hordes in and out of the house.
* Spent an hour or so finally figuring out the proper procedure for setting up the fan timers in our houses (we have super-insulated homes - they must be ventilated, particularly in the winter, to prevent the humidity from getting out of hand).
* Did laundry.
* In the afternoon, painted the kids room in our common house. This is sort of the next step to getting that room up for regular usage. Can't really unpack toys and games and set things up without the walls painted. Now they're painted (even trimmed it), but needs one quick touchup session after everything dries.
* After
catya got home, took an hour to go out and get dinner by myself. Ahhhhh. I do love being around the kids and the community, but it was nice to just sit down and read and have a cheeseburger.
* Tonight had ice cream with some more mosaicers (Ice cream? On the coldest night of the year? Huh!)
All in all - busy, but not too busy. Fun, but not overtaxing. I am totally going back to the Gates Pond walk soon. So gorgeous. If we can figure out how to walk over there from here (there's a lot of private property in the way, even though it's less than a mile), that would be totally awesome.
