Mid point of Arisia.

It's 11:40 on Saturday morning, I've been here since 4pm on Thursday.

We've made it past the Hell Bump. About 1800 people badged, registration count is hovering near 2200. (hotel cap is 2500, I don't think we'll hit it).

First the good.
The reg staff has been -awesome-. Too many names to list here (and too little coffee to remember their LJ names), but Kris, Danielle, La, Crissy, Randy - everyone has been really kicking ass. At no point during last night's reg push did we have more than 10 people in line. As far as I can tell, that's a record.

This was the first real stress test of CONGO v2 in rapid-fire usage. We had 7 operators churning away on the new laptops I had just purchased. New equipment end to end (save for the badge printers) - and everything Just Plain Worked.

Well, almost.

The almost-Bad
Thursday night I discovered an ommission in the logic on how badges were generated. I'm not sure how I let this slip by, but it was pretty dramatic, and I was very embarrassed at the situation. 45 minutes of code-hacking got it fixed and has run flawlessly for the weekend. Other small bugs have cropped up, but considering there was 18,000 lines of new code going live in a full stress test this weekend, things have gone remarkably well.

The true-Bad
However. Things are not without grief. The badge printers have been behaving poorly. I believe I'm tickling a bug in CUPS having to do with USB devices going off line. The printer queue would randomly stop processing, and some range of plugging and unplugging cables, doing CUPS commands, and possibly restarting cupsd will make the pool start again.

VERY IRRITATING.

This has been the shadow over me for the weekend, and has resulted in a lack of sleep and other grouchy-making issues. I can't really debug it too easily, aprticularly during a live event - "Oh, sometimes while printing 200 badges, the printers stop." - great.

Other than that, "It's a con". I'm mostly doing okay on the emotional stability front. Have had good convos with a variety of exes, and have not had major drama, so I guess this is good, no? :)

On to more food and socializing and stuff.

Of all the places to have to stress test a new version of code because Arisians (in general) are good folk. Not too many screaming people.

I'm glad you're making it to dinner tonight.
