So while I was home sick, I found that Netflix streaming had Lost Season 1 on it. I watched the first episode (no, I've never seen the series, but I need to catch up or lose geek credz).

Last night I sat down to watch it again, and Season 1 is no longer on streaming.

Do things appear and disappear on netflix streaming? Anyone else seen this?

Look, even Netflix says I saw it : http://screencast.com/t/NWYwMmIz

Where'd it disappear to?

Yup, things come and go from their streaming selection. When you view your instant queue on a computer (not a set-top device or a phone), there will be a warning next to items that will only be available for streaming for a little while longer.

This is hands-down the single most annoying thing about Netflix instant. And sadly, it boils down to the studios being stupid, greedy bastards: they figure if they keep rotating content around between the streaming services, you'll eventually just give up in disgust and buy a DVD.

...except that what I mostly do is give up in disgust and torrent it. There's a lesson in here, somewhere...

Yes, they also do it as part of contract negotiations. We've lost half-watched movies. If you call Netflix to complain, they'll often send you the DVD immediately.
