Anyone use the littleton train station? Do the lots fill up every day? (I see there's 2 lots - a 44 spot 'public' one, and a 100 spot 'private / pay for' one. either one will work).

(Trying to figure out commuter solutions)

I'm not a regular, but you should talk to Charlene. You could either ride with her, or use her method.

I'm pretty sure (Abby would know better, you should ask her in IRC) that the private/pay lot has a waiting list.

Replying to my own thread here...

http://www.mbta.com/about_the_mbta/news_events/?id=21864&month&year

"BOSTON – Friday, June 10th, 2011 – Secretary of Housing & Economic Development Greg Bialecki today awarded the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) a $2 million grant to construct a new public parking lot at the Littleton Commuter Rail Station. The grant is part of the $11 million in improvements being made to the Littleton Station through the $211 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-funded Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line project. Construction at the Littleton Station is expected to create 40 jobs, while the entire Fitchburg Line project will put a total of 430 people to work."

"This month, the MBTA will use the Executive Office of Housing & Economic Development grant to acquire existing privately-operated parking lots immediately adjacent to the Littleton Station. The parking lots are scheduled to be open for use on July 1, 2011 and will include upgrades such as the MBTA’s convenient parking payment system and an off-street passenger drop-off area to accommodate shuttle buses from area employers and office parks as well as private vehicles. The new lots will feature 45 additional spots bringing the total parking spaces available to commuters to 195."

Huh. :)

I've tried parking at Littleton twice in the past two weeks. The first time, to catch the 7:20am train on a Friday, I got one of the last spots in the lot. The second, to catch the same train on a Monday, the lot was overfull with people in parked in non-spaces. I scooted over to South Acton and got one of the last of the public pay ($2.50) spaces available. Missed the earlier train but caught the next one and caught up with my friend who I'm working for as we both got off the train at Porter. :)

Based on that experience, I'd say the most difficult part of using commuter rail around here is finding a dang parking space...
