Sun! It was out there! I saw it!

I came back from RI this afternoon and just could not focus on getting work done. There was actually an environment outside that did NOT suck!

By 4pm I gave up. I hauled out the geocache map, found a location not too close but not too far, pulled the upright out of the basement (no 'bent yet - it hasn't been prepped for the summer), and took off, GPS in hand. I stopped by REI and the soon-to-be-defunct CompUSA, then launched off to find the geocache.

It was hardly a direct route, and I made a few wrong turns, but managed to find it and come back to the house in one piece.

Total miles: 13.6 or thereabouts
Soreness level: okay now, but it's gonna be nasty tomorrow
Brain effect: MUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCHH better. I dont like being idle. I like getting out and feeling like I DID something.

This ride was all about getting to a destination and back. There were a lot more uppy-downies than I'm used to (the lake area in sudbury / wayland is very hilly), but I could feel that all that hiking I've been doing worked. I wasn't wiped out, and I kept up a mighty good pace. I could -feel- that I was in better shape than last summer, though the muscles used for bikeriding are different than for hiking. It was far more aerobic, much more "I'm putting my whole body into this" - and I drank a LOT more water.

I want more!

I think being resistant to painkillers is fine -- you earned that sore! Ibuprofen, however, is not a painkiller and taking it in smart ways can prevent injuries and keep existing ones from worsening. It probably isn't a big deal if you're riding casually and taking days off, but if you get into serious training or endurance riding, or sustain any kind of soft tissue injury, it's worth having read up on :)
